Hendersonville, North Carolina: At last weekend’s Round 11 of the GNCC series at the Moose Yadkin Valley Stomp, racer Paul Whibley won the XC1 Pro class for the Monster Energy Kawasaki Geico team, on his number-2-plated Kawasaki KXF 450 fitted with Öhlins TTX shock and suspension components provided by Öhlins USA.
This latest win of Whibley’s at the Welborn family farm in Yadkin County, North Carolina is his fifth for the season, more than any other rider, and it adds to his points lead in the XC1 Pro championship. In 11 races Whibley has also racked up more podium finishes than any other rider in the top class, earning a total of nine visits to those steps. With 274 points, Whibley leads the championship by 32 points over the closest rival.
Whibley took the win by more than 40 seconds over the second-place finisher after beating all riders for the Holeshot Award into turn one, nearly three hours before he won the race overall. This proves that sometimes being the hare and not the tortoise is the way to win long races.
Scott Watkins, Whibley’s Monster Energy Kawasaki Geico teammate took third place at The Stomp in XC2 Pro Lites, again showing his consistency of always finishing in the top eight all season long, which includes one win and four podiums. Watkins is in fourth place in the XC2 Pro Lites championship, with the chance of moving into the top three in the next two races on his Kawasaki KXF 250, also fitted with Öhlins TTX suspension components.
The next round of the 13-race GNCC series takes place this weekend, October 3-4, at ITP Power Line Park in St. Clairsville, Ohio. There, Whilbley will look to making it three wins in a row on his Kawasaki KXF 450.
